Combining the pleasures and companionship of walking with the attractions of the Scottish countryside, its history and culture

Learmont Mackenzie Travel, created by Alastair Learmont and Kitty Bruce-Gardyne (Mackenzie) in 2006, seeks to combine the pleasures and companionship of walking with the attractions of the Scottish countryside, its history and culture. Whilst our approach to a weekend is designed to be informative, the atmosphere is informal.  Our walking – escorted and supported throughout – is not competitive.  Both Alastair and Kitty bring their own individual knowledge and experience to Learmont Mackenzie walking breaks.  An advocate by profession, with a background in the classics, Alastair has extensive experience leading group walks in Scotland, as well as further afield in Italy and France.  He has a particular interest in Borders history and folklore and is a passionate musician.

With experience leading and managing walking groups in Italy, Kitty was formerly Chief Executive of the British Chamber of Commerce in Milan.  She has researched extensively in the Tweed Valley and has particular interests in the traditions of the Borders:  its festivals, food and textiles.  Now a mother of four daughters, she lives in Edinburgh with her family. Both Alastair and Kitty are keenly aware of the importance of the Borders in the story of Scotland.
